JOHN LENNARD
John is a contemporary landscape painter whose love of art and nature is vividly expressed in his colourful canvases. Painting in the traditional medium of oils, the work captures the effects of colour in sunlight and shadow.
John was born in Barrie, Ontario and now resides in the Haliburton Highlands of Central Ontario. After graduating from Leaside High School he studied at the Ontario College of Art in Toronto and later at the Art Students League in New York City. In over forty years devoted to painting, the Canadian landscape has provided an unending variety of subject matter and continues to be a constant inspiration for his art.
The paintings reflect a direct response to nature and the environment. They intensify the subject and follow the seasons with a strong rich treatment which evokes the remembered sensations of season, place and time. The bold colour and strong design enables the viewers to look into the shadows and see light and colour they never knew existed in nature, thus allowing them to enter nature with a sensitized eye. The paintings emphasize colour, light, shadow and pattern and makes one feel, as well as see what was experienced at that place and time.
John has exhibited his work internationally for many years. His paintings are represented in numerous collections in Canada and abroad and have won many awards. He is a member of various art organizations and is listed in the art publications…”A Dictionary of Canadian Artists” as well as “Artists in Canada” and is an elected member of “The Society of Canadian Artists”
