Art is a dialogue between the artist and the viewer. My paintings are an attempt to open the conversation, sharing my experiences and responses to nature.
The sounds, smells and energy of my surroundings are almost as important to the creative process as the visual subject. The struggle for the artist is to look beyond appearances and find ways to create images that say what nature is, not just what it looks like.
Using oil paint on canvas I strive to capture the emotion within the inherent characteristics of my surroundings and reveal their beauty with bold colour and strong design, enabling the viewer to enter nature with a sensitized eye. The paintings emphasize colour, light, shadow and pattern to make one feel as well as see what was experienced at that place and time.
